About Us

The Center for Structural Bolting Technology is led by Dr. James A Swanson and Dr. Gian Andrea Rassati.  Both are Associate Professors of Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management at the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. James A Swanson

Associate Professor of Structural Engineering
University of Cincinnati

Dr. Swanson earned his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1999.  His research interests include structural steel buildings and bridges, bolted connections in those structures, and numerical modeling and simulation of structures.  Dr. Swanson serves on several committees with the American Institute of Steel Construction and the Research Council on Structural Connections.

Dr. Gian Andrea Rassati

Associate Professor of Structural Engineering
University of Cincinnati

Dr. Rassati earned a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of Trieste in 2001. His research interests include steel and steel-concrete composite structures, with particular interest on lateral force resisting systems, dynamic behavior of structures, and earthquake engineering. He is licensed as a professional engineer in Italy, and he is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, of the American Institute of Steel Construction, of the Research Council on Structural Connections, and of ASTM International.
